Cobalt (Co)
Cobalt was discovered in 1735. It occurs in cobaltite, smaltite, erythrite, and other minerals and is a by-product of processing nickel, silver, lead, copper, and iron ores.
Cobalt is a brittle, hard metal that ordinarily exists as a two-allotrope mixture. The artificial Cobalt-60 is an important source of gamma rays and used as a radiotherapeutic agent.
In alloys, it is used for high-speed, heavy-duty, high-temperature cutting tools and dies, in magnetic and stainless steels, and in jet turbines and gas turbine generators.
Cobalt salts produce brilliant hues and inks and permanent blue colors in porcelain, glass, pottery, tiles, and enamels. Cobalt compounds can be used to treat mineral deficiencies in animals.

Sigma Aldrich Fine Chemicals Biosciences SupelTM Carbon LC 2.7 mum
Supel(TM) Carbon LC is a high-speed ultra-high performance liquid chromatography column based on 200 A… porous graphitic carbon (PGC) particle technology. The PGC particle provides a 100% carbon plane for the analytes to interact with via hydrophobic interactions and through ionic interactions via the polar retention effect on graphite (PREG) effect. This particle design exhibits high column efficiency for polar compoundsand enhanced retention of compounds typically requiring hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) to retain. Through the use of patent-pending synthetic procedures a narrow particle size distribution is prevalent with this technology further enhancing the chromatographic performance that this column can display.
